UBS Asset Management’s Global Real Estate business has appointed Paul Guest as Executive Director, Lead Real Estate Strategist. UBS Asset Management’s Global Real Estate business has EUR 63 billion assets under management (as at September 2015) across Europe, the Americas and Asia Pacific.

As Lead Strategist, Paul will be responsible for identifying and advising upon risk-adjusted return opportunities and providing global market forecasts. He will also have responsibility for the co-ordination of UBS Asset Management’s house view on real estate investment markets, which draws upon the research of its regionally-based research teams.

Paul will also be responsible for supporting multi-regional investment mandates with qualitative and quantitative analysis of cross-regional economies and investment markets. In addition he will liaise with UBS’s wealth management and investment banking businesses.

Paul joins UBS following four years at LaSalle Investment Management, where he was most recently Regional Director of Research and Strategy, Asia Pacific. Prior to that, he held the roles of Global Capital Markets Research Director, Head of EMEA Research and Director of UK Research for Jones Lang LaSalle, where he was for four years. Paul formerly spent three years with Moody’s Investors Services and was at the Bank of Nova Scotia for two years.

William Hughes, Global Head of Real Estate Research & Strategy commented, “Paul will be fulfilling a crucial client-facing role within our real estate business, providing a macro view of the real estate sector within the wider global context whilst offering informed views of how it sits within a multi-asset portfolio. Paul is a high calibre hire for UBS as we look to build and further leverage our research capabilities, with continued focus on our research-led investment strategy.”

Paul Guest said, “While cross-border real estate investment isn’t a new phenomenon, we are seeing a broader array of investors going global with ever-increasing capital flows, despite some brief reversion to home markets after the Global Financial Crisis. Advising clients on the relative performance of markets and sectors across the globe and explaining the benefits and costs of different market entry and exit strategies will be a key focus of mine. As the asset class continues to grow and mature, I will be working to place real estate in the context of a multi-asset landscape and to help clients define and execute their global real estate investment strategies.”

Paul holds a BA from the University of Toronto (CA) and an MSc from the London School of Economics (UK). He is a member of INREV, ANREV and the Society of Property Researchers (SPR). In 2012-2013 he was Chairman of ANREV’s Research Committee.
