Gli Award di ICSC: i vincitori europei

05 dicembre 2007

"Ten European shopping centres received recognition at the 31st Annual International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) International Design and Development Awards, which were presented during a ceremony held on 5 December at the 2007 ICSC Centerbuild Conference in Phoenix, USA.
Since its inauguration in 1977, the ICSC International Design and Development Awards Programme has recognised outstanding projects for excellence in the creation of new retail projects and the expansion or redevelopment of existing projects.
Ermine Amies, managing director of ICSC in Europe said: “This is a great success story for the European shopping centre industry which continues to deliver innovative design. We are setting the global benchmark for sustainability too.”

RENOVATION OR EXPANSION OF AN EXISTING PROJECT
Centers of more than 500,000 Square Feet (46,451 m2) of total retail space:

Design Award Winner

EUROPARK Salzburg Expansion

Salzburg, Austria

Owner: Spar Österreichische Warenharendels

Management: EUROPARK Entwicklungs-und Betriebsges.m.b.H

Design Architect: Massimiliano Fukas

Finance Company: Atelier Buegelmayer

Consultants: Herbrich Consultants and Bartenbach Lichtlabor

Since its opening a decade ago, Europark's success has been unrivaled in Austria.with its expansion, its future is assured. Its inherently urban flair has been made stronger. It sets an example for all by its innovations and its environmental compatibility, its "made in one casting" approach that deftly blends the "old part" and the "new part." Europark's original construction and subsequent expansion innovatively meld traditional construction and technology. But most of all, for the people of its marketplace, Europark is far more than just "shopping"…it remains THE place to see and be seen.

INNOVATIVE DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW PROJECT

Place d'Armes is the new heart of Valenciennes' renaissance in the city's center…more than 50 new stores have brought new life to the area. An integral part of the town's overhaul, it is by any yardstick a real commercial success. Shoppers have returned to the city center…and it is ultimately a prime example of private cooperation with the public sector to create a successful urban renewal.

McArthurGlen Barberino Designer Outlet

Florence, Italy

Owner/Management Company: McArthurGlen U.K. Ltd./ Fingen Group

Design Architect: Giustiniani/Spadolini/Perekhodtsev/Hydea srl

The design of this striking center takes its inspiration from the architectural renaissance styles of the noble villas of Tuscany. Its sun-washed shades of color are enhanced by arches, brickstone streets, café piazzas and footbridges over the river that runs through it. It effectively combines with the village around it to become a center for all the people to get together…in an area of seven million residents and the 11 million tourists who annually make Florence a destination.

Design Award Winner

Dolce Vita Porto

Porto, Portugal

Owner/Management Company: Amorim Imobiliária

Design Architect: Suttle Mindlin

Dolce Vita Porto is a key element of the regeneration of Porto's Antas area, a development that includes the Dragon Stadium, residential development and a four-star hotel. Its shopping and leisure activities complement the other elements perfectly as a year-round attraction. Inside its striking façade is a grand urban gallery and mixed-use plaza highlighted by bold works of art. It is ultimately innovative in its architecture and design, and distinctive in its glamour.

Design Award Winner

Ettlinger Tor Karlsruhe

Karlsruhe, Germany

The largest shopping center in southern Germany, it was also constructed with an eye on sustainability…utilizing only top quality materials for the interior and exterior. It is a modern meeting place that connects with the ancient town gate, "Ettlinger Tor."

All of the efforts that created Plenilunio – design, marketing, planning, execution and financing – seized on the synergies of that marketplace to ultimately regenerate and transform a formerly industrial area. It has all the right ingredients for success: Location at a transportation junction, a well-balanced retail and leisure mix, and a singular architectural design.

EUROPARK Salzburg Expansion

Salzburg, Austria

Owner: Spar Österreichische Warenharendels

Management: EUROPARK Entwicklungs-und Betriebsges.m.b.H

Design Architect: Massimiliano Fukas

Finance Company: Atelier Buegelmayer

Consultants: Herbrich Consultants and Bartenbach Lichtlabor

Already honored with the Design Award for Renovation or Expansion of an Existing Project, EuroPark Salzburg is this year’s honoree for sustainable design. For its innovative design techniques to achieve exceptional environmental performance, it is indeed a winner. From its uses of sustainable materials, to its sophisticated, monitored climate control system, re-use of exhaust energy, recycling programs and more, EuroPark Salzburg sets a new benchmark for sustainable design. The proof is in the approvals: Subjected to the careful scrutiny of an environmental compatibility examination during which 10,000 people were given veto power, there was not one single objection to the expansion project.

This annual competition is focused on: Innovative Design and Construction of a New Project and Renovation or Expansion of an Existing Project.
