"The 19th edition of MIPIM, the World’s Property Market, is set to welcome a record number of real estate professionals, with participation from Western Europe and Scandinavia increasing significantly.
7,221 delegates are currently registered from companies based in Western Europe, an 18% rise on the same period last year. 1,001 property executives from Scandinavian companies have already committed to MIPIM 2008, a 33% rise on the same period in 2007.
As Nadine Castagna, Director of MIPIM, notes: "Once again, MIPIM is strengthening its position as the definitive market for real estate players in Western Europe, particularly in Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Denmark, Norway and Sweden. In 2007, MIPIM welcomed 26,210 and all the indicators point to an increase in participation in 2008."
MIPIM 2008 also promises a strong line-up of internationally-oriented European investment companies and consulting firms. Among these investment companies will be Aareal Bank AG, Eurohypo AG (Germany), AMB Property Corporation, Rabo Bouwfonds (Netherlands), and the Caisse d'Epargne Group (France). The consulting firms Cushman & Wakefield, Jones Lang Lasalle, CB Richard Ellis and DTZ will also be attending.
The German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology will exhibit for the first time on a 210m² stand housing a dozen real estate companies. German investors will also be present at MIPIM, especially now that the introduction of G-REITs into German legislation is opening up new investment opportunities. The renowned Bank of America economist Dr Holger Schmieding will discuss these issues in the MIPIM conference programmeduring his keynote address on the question of: "Is Germany still the powerhouse of Europe?"
From the United Kingdom, MIPIM will again welcome the city of London with its eye-catching 'London Stand,’ and the city of Liverpool, this year’s "European Capital of Culture.” The return of Scotland as an exhibitor with its national 'Scottish Enterprise' stand is another of this year’s highlights.
For France, this year’s novelty will be the attendance of Vinci Construction, the leading French building and public works group. Vinci’s participation at MIPIM forms part of its ongoing strategy aimed at supporting economic and local authority players in their town and country planning.
Italy will notably be represented by Pirelli and Risanamento, the two heavyweights of Italian real estate development, and by the cities of Milan, Torino, Venice and Florence. Bologna will also be present and exhibit an ambitious urban regeneration project, focusing on the renovation of a former Ministry of Defence site with a total surface area of 835,000 m².
Each year an increasing number of Scandinavian real estate professionals are discovering the benefits of MIPIM. A new exhibitor in 2008, the City of Oslo’s 200 m² stand will showcase the “Fjord City Expo,” a project to renew the port and its coastal areas, including the creation of the Akerselva Park, a pioneering environmental park that draws attention to the fragility of ecosystems in coastal areas. The cities of Malmo, Gothenburg, Stockholm and Copenhagen will also have a dedicated stand at MIPIM.
