For this, ECE will apply a unique architectural concept that will offer travelers, visitors, and the people of Leipzig a new shopping experience and exciting places to spend time at. The center’s three stories will be themed according to the most important shopping needs of its customers. The modernization will comprise 70 new and refurbished shop and food service areas. Besides bringing in a large number of new, young concepts, many of the existing stores will be upgraded to appear in the latest shop design of their brand. The owners of the shopping center, a DWS managed fund and ECE/the Otto family, as well as the tenants will invest a total of approximately 30 million euros until fall 2019 into the refurbishment and an extensive package of measures to significantly increase the center’s quality of stay, and a state-of-the-art design for the entire center.

The refurbishment focuses particularly on restructuring the center’s individual floors. Their new design will resemble the retail offerings on each level. These will mainly include modern convenience offerings and innovative concepts. The historic baggage office in the connecting corridor between the western and eastern hall will be refurbished and are planned to house exciting fast-casual food concepts. The top floor will be all about arrival and spending time. Besides extending the existing food services, the ancillary rooms of the historic waiting area are being reviewed for repurposing to create a place with premium food services (“casual dining”) and a great quality of stay for travelers and customers alike. The ground floor will mainly house convenience stores and service providers: These will include a new innovative travel center of Deutsche Bahn, a Deutsche Post outlet, car rentals, a second restroom facility, and many more services.
